Alexander Medina is a visual artist and muralist who has been involved with interior decorating and mural painting for several years. Previously, he worked as an art director, graphic designer, and photographer for an advertising agency. Because of his passion for painting, he honed his skills for visual presentation which he gained from over 2 decades of experience in photography. He began his career as a graphic designer and photographer at Epicenter Inc. and worked his way up to Avellana Associates in the tri-media advertising agency, which included creating TV, radio, and print ads and providing award-winning design services locally. He also worked abroad as art director for Creative Network Saipan USA for 3 years, handling several brands like Mackintosh, KFC, Continental Airlines, and the hotels Hafa Adai, Hyatt Regency, and Mariana Resorts. In addition, he became an interior decorator and muralist in the Middle East, restored old masters’ paintings at UCPB, and dabbled in metal art sculpture.
After more than 2 decades in advertising, Alexander Medina joined his wife Maris in the Arts Decorations business, working together doing murals, interior design, faux finishes, and realistic paintings here and abroad. Some of their clients include EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Hyatt Recency Hotel, Mandarin Hotel, Pancake House (both local and international franchises), and the residences of the De Venecias and Lorenzos. He is currently focusing on consignment paintings, murals, and wall effects for residential homes in Makati.
As a painter exposed for many years to all mediums, Medina has always loved abstract art, as this is where he can express his emotions, moods, and color styles. For this exhibit, he associates “Gold” in his paintings as a bright ray of light that reflects luxury and valuable and unfading beauty that blends with other colors. He believes that passion and believing in one’s self are keys to prolonging life, and as life is a never-ending learning process, collaborations with painters and appreciation for mentoring are great way to keep a peaceful mind.
