Kwago together with Para Sa Sining raise funds for typhoon victims through poetry and music
November 28, 2020 | 7pm – 10pm
2020 is the worst year yet. The past year has brought about many unexpected twists and turns with the outbreak of the pandemic and the coming of the strong cyclones in the country. In collaboration with Para sa Sining, Kwago hopes to use this period of crisis and great change as a petri dish to give birth to new ideas and pursue a renewed direction. Both organizations believe that creating and reading have the power to transform tragedies into meaningful opportunities. Join them in the launch of “Krisis, Isang Pintuan,” Kwago’s 6-month fundraiser kicking off with a donation drive for victims of typhoon Ulysses on November 28, 2020, 7pm to 10pm.
One of Kwago’s members Drew Rabadon, a graduate student in University of Asia and the Pacific, reflects on the adversities brought about by the calamity and how seeking solidarities can aid us in rising above tragedies.
“Both Kwago and Para Sa Sining are fundraising to support our collective of creatives, but we feel that we also need to extend help to the victims of the recent typhoon, Ulysses. I live in Marikina and we were hit by the typhoon Ulysses. Ondoy still wreaked greater havoc than Ulysses, but the stress it brought me is definitely the same. Our whole house was submerged into flood. I can only imagine what the others have lost. There are plenty of bereaved families, and people who don’t have the luxury of a Plan B. It’s hard to position one’s own fundraising campaign in the midst of a national calamity, but it highlights one of the most important things to remember in life: that you don’t have to go through it alone. This is why we collaborated with Para Sa Sining for mutual support and we hope to contribute to RESBAK and The Storytelling Project in some way,” one of Kwago’s members Drew Rabadon shared.
