FDCP to Host First Cut Lab Int’l Film Conference in Manila

To take advantage of the film industry experts from Italy, Poland, France, and South Africa coming to Manila for the First Cut Lab to help develop and elevate selected Filipino projects, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is hosting the First Cut Lab International Film Conference from April 11 to 13 at the Alliance Française de Manille, Makati City to introduce international film production and co-production to more Filipino filmmakers, professionals, and film enthusiasts.

With the first-ever First Cut Lab in Manila, FDCP is bringing in a Europe-based project development and editing lab which mentors and guides filmmakers in developing and producing globally competitive films. Now on its fifth year, the original Lab has supported films from Lithuania, Slovenia, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine, and many of these films have made their premiere in A-list film festivals, like Toronto, Berlinale, and Cannes.

The slate of international speakers will include the First Cut Lab director, former TorinoFilmLab artistic director, and film festival programmer Matthieu Darras, and film editors, screenwriters, script consultants, and producers Giovanni Pompili, Izabel Igel, Charlotte Deflassieux Viguier, and Mmabatho Kau.

Local award-winning directors and producers Pepe Diokno, Pedring Lopez, Armi Cacanindin, and Carlo Manatad will also deliver their panel discussions on their experiences. Moreover, film screenings will be held featuring films which were developed and produced through international labs and co-productions.
