For the sake of the natural planet, people need to see the incredible beauty of the world that they live in and that beauty cannot be taken for granted. Artist Richard Tuason communicates the need to see the incredible animals in their natural habitat to know how amazing Earth is without the staining touch of human influence. He wants people to see these beings the way he sees them; important, powerful, valuable, and significant.
Tuason creates an emotional connection between his works and the viewer; and portray the soul, spirit and expressions of the animals he draws: whether they are domestic animals with whom humans forge partnerships, or wild animals whose lives are mostly unknowable. The artworks pertain to no historical era, but are portraits of the creatures with which humans share this planet.
A steward in the middle ages is considered a caretaker, or a manager of a throne or kingdom while the actual ruler could not be present or capable of being in control. Therefore, as stewards of this Earth, of creation, it is not just enough to be “green”, but to take care of this planet, as the artist communicates that it is all our responsibility to do so. Tuason relays that if his art can help others be more aware of nature, respectful of it, involved in it, part of it — he knows that it really is his obligation to create the art that he does.
