PRINT(Ed): The AAG Print Collection Revisited aims to develop a basic understanding of printmaking as a medium. Curated by Pandy Aviado, the exhibition discusses the history of printmaking and how the AAG Print Collection grew through the contributions of its founder Fernando Zóbel and other leading printmakers.
The exhibit is divided into different sections to present basic printmaking techniques of relief, intaglio, planography and serigraphy to the more experimental and hybrid techniques that are used today by contemporary artists. Featured prints include selections from the AAG Collection and recent donations to the museum such as a sand print by David Medalla.
PRINT(Ed): The AAG Print Collection Revisited opens on 14 May 2019, Tuesday, starting with a curator’s talk by Pandy Aviado at 2pm at the Ben Chan ArtSuite, followed by the opening reception at 4pm at the Wilson L Sy Prints and Drawings Gallery. The exhibit will run until 15 September 2019.

ABOUT PANDY AVIADO:
Pandy Aviado is recognized as one of the pioneers of contemporary printmaking in the country. He started as one of the first members of Ateneo Art Gallery’s Arts Club founded by AAG’s first curator, Emmanuel Torres. The Ateneo Art Gallery’s fine print collection was instrumental to Pandy’s development as a visual artist and printmaker. Heavily influenced by the father of Philippine contemporary printmaking, Manuel Rodriguez Sr., and with support from Fernando Zóbel, Pandy pursued his studies both here and abroad to learn and work with leading European printmakers. Lauded for his prints, he has been part of more than a hundred exhibitions in various continents. Pandy also served as president of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) and was a former director of CCP’s Visual Arts Coordinating Center. He also received the Gawad Tanglaw ng Lahi in 2018 from the Ateneo de Manila University.
