Synopsis:
Tim Dacanay’s Pamantasang Hirang (Sa Dilim Man), under the direction of Tuxqs Rutaquio, is a satirical, one-act play focusing on brotherhood and coercion as expressed in the narrative of a fictional fraternity at the state university.In an attempt to help his panicking roommate, Raji, Dan learns that an initiation rite is going to be conducted in their dorm room. This same fraternity was the one he had left 15 years ago. He later discovers that the frat alumnus regulating the activity was his college buddy and now congressman, Chok Villanueva. Their reconnection reveal a dark history as the unfinished initiation of Dan into Alpha Mu Tau unfolds.

Bio
Tim Dacanay graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philippine Studies (History and Anthropology) at the University of the Philippines-Diliman in 2007. He earned his master’s degree in Development Communication at the University of the Philippines Open University in 2010 where he received the Chancellor’s Award. He is a member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association, Telon Playwrights Circle, PETA Writers Pool and Writers Bloc, Inc. He won the second prize at the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature for the full-length play, “Teatro Porvenir” in 2006. He is currently the chairperson of the Design Foundation Department of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts.
Tuxqs Rutaquio is one of few theater workers and educators who has successfully evolved from acting on stage to designing for theater, and to becoming director of the more daring productions of recent years. He is the festival director and dramaturg of Virgin Labfest (an annual festival of untried, untested, unstaged plays of filipino playwrights) since 2011. He also used to be Associate Artistic Director of Tanghalang Pilipino from 2010 to 2015. From 2012 to 2016, he represented the Philippines at the ASEAN Performing Arts Festival (APAF) in Tokyo Japan. In 2015 and 2016, he devised and directed a 15 minute piece and a full-length play, Teru Teru! (Shine! Shine!) with Japanese actors performed at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro, Tokyo Japan. He graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Theater Arts at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He is currently an Assistant Professor at DLS-CSB teaching under the Production Design Department.
Timothy Castillo (Dan) is a graduate of AB Technical Theater of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB). His productions include PETA’s “Batang Rizal”, “Makbet” by Nonon Padilla, “Tanghalang Pilipino’s “Sandosenang Sapatos” and Carlo Vergara’s “Mula sa Kulimliman” for Virgin Labfest 12-13. He also did roles for various films, including “Ma’ Rosa”, “Violator”, “Mondomanila”, “Kapatiran”, “Nerseri”, “Oro”, and “Neomanila”. He is currently a member of TAXI Theater.
Theo Dacanay (Chok Villanueva) is known for his undying love for the arts, ranging from visual arts to the performing arts. Home-schooled and a graduate of DLS-CSB under the Technical Theater program, he is also an Artist-Teacher of the Philippine Education Theater Association (PETA) and an Xpgineer and Imagitect of TAXI Theater. He designs costumes for Cosplay events as a newbie cosplayer and publishes his series of comic strips “Game with Bae” in his facebook page: DAX ART PH. He is also a human being who enjoys music, fresh air, games, anime, and a warm cup of coffee.
Kyle Gabriel L. Confesor (Raji/Fratmen) is one of the pioneer students of DLS-CSB’s AB Theater Arts Program. He is a free lance events host and film and theater actor. His play “Para Saan Ba?” which he wrote and directed has recently won 2nd Best Play and garnered 8 awards in the 14th Crossroads Theater Festival of 2017. He’s also acted in several productions such as Nonon Padilla’s “Makbet” and “Misteryo Ng Liwanag.”
Jerome Dawis (Raji/Fratmen) is an alumnus of DLS-CSB’s resident theatre company, Dulaang Filipino and a student-artist scholar of the college’s Office of Culture and Arts with a degree in AB Multimedia Arts. He served as the group’s company manager from 2014 to 2015 and as the dramaturg of Dulaang Filipino’s Oedipus, an adaptation of Sophocles’ Theban plays that garnered recognition from Escenamateur (Spain) as Best International Performance and Teatralny Kufar International Student and Youth Theatre Festival as Best Performance by Amateur Theatre (Belarus). His theatre credits include Pierre Romancon: A Rock Musical (2013), Kung Paano Maghiwalay (2014), Oedipus (2014, 2015), Bob Gets Cast Out of Hell (2016), and Virgin Labfest 13’s Boses ng Masa and Sincerity Bikers’ Club (2017). He is currently a multimedia artist and a collaborator and member of Antrosininglaya Theatre Company. Aside from acting, he also directs, writes, and designs for the stage. He enjoys cooking as a hobby.
Luis Sumera (Master/Fratmen) is a transfer student from UA&P and is now taking up AB Theater Arts in DLS-CSB. He has played as Jigs in Juan Ekis’ 20 Question last January 2017 and has played as Fish in Gabrielle Lanzona’s All Aboard Hysteria Express during Short + Sweet Manila 2017 in which he was nominated for Best Actor.
Sarah Garcia (Lenny) is a sophomore student taking up Theater Arts in DLS-CSB. She has performed in plays such as Solomon and Bombita. She likes dogs, cats, turtles, horses, and birds.
Rea Molina (Lenny) is an alumna of DLS-CSB. She was a member of Dulaang Filipino from 2011-2014 and has acted in its major productions such as “My Name Is” (a play inspired by Sam Shepard’s Buried Child), “E” (an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s Emperor’s New Clothes); and Fuente Ovejuna (written by Lope De Vega). She has also been a part of CCP’s Pasinaya Festival 2013 wherein she played the role of ‘Jane’ in “By A Lady”. She directed a play called “Ba.Kal” written by Dodos Dela Cruz, an entry to DLS-CSB’s Crossroads Theater Festival 2010.
Brian Bobadilla (Candy/Fratmen) is currently taking up his Masters of Arts in Literature with specialization in Poetry, Fiction and Performance and Theatre Studies at DLSU – Manila. His recent theater performance was with The World We Live Without, produced by Arts Management Program Batch 113 Students of DLS-CSB.
Karl Camanide’s (Master/Fratmen) first acting experience was when he competed in the World Championship of Performing Arts in 2014. He then studied acting at the International Academy of film and television in Cebu. He has done 2 local TV commercials. He is currently taking Bachelor of Arts Major in Theater Arts at De La Salle College of Saint Benilde. He’s been part of school plays, namely Solomon and Bombita.
Karel Coldenhoff (Jun) was born and raised in the Netherlands, with a Filipino mother and Japanese-Indonesian Father. His two passions in life are acting and sports. He studies AB-Theater Arts at DLS-CSB and is also acting at Star Magic. He recently concluded his first Filipino acting role in Bombita.
