Home is not just a physical structure. It is a feeling of love, belongingness and hope.

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde proudly presents HOME, a dance thesis production by Debie Rose M. Tiamson, a full academic scholar under the Dance Major Program, about the special relationship between humans and domestic animals.

HOME is not just a physical structure. It is a feeling of love, belongingness and hope. HOME highlights that every living being is important and has a purpose. It focuses on the special symbiotic relationship between humans and domestic animals. The dance work juxtaposes emotions experienced by both human and animal, particularly those connected to abandonment issues, in order to show how animals are capable of understanding our emotions and are thus capable of giving us a kind of love. It aims to show compassion and loyalty to pets and to imply responsible pet ownership.

Below is a short synopsis:

After the death of his mother, Peter lived a depressing life alone in his house. Daisy, his pet cat which he had since he was kid, loves to play with him and makes him feel loved. Daisy has been loyal to his owner and has never left him. When Daisy gave birth, Peter felt burdened with the responsibility of taking the kittens in. So, he decided to abandon them and never thought Daisy would also disappear to find the kittens. Peter’s life became more miserable without Daisy. Despite what Peter did to them, Daisy proved her loyalty to him and revealed Daisy’s family love.

Debie never thought of taking Dance as a career due to the academic demands in her previous years. Wanting to break through led her to this career path. She started her formal dance training during her first year in DLS-CSB. Debie have been part of many dance and theater productions, taking note of Benilde’s outstanding dance musical production “Ding, Ang Bato!” led by the Director and Librettist Chris Millado.

Director, choreographer and writer of HOME, Debie Tiamson, showing her great love for her pet.

The development of this dance production is based on Debie’s great love for animals. Growing up with pets at home, she has valued her dogs and cats as a family. Dancing as her passion, Debie’s thesis shares an advocacy against animal abandonment, abuse and cruelty.

“People are asking if we’ll be using real animals. I don’t think we need one kasi astig ‘yung choreo,” shared Kim Eneria, Debie’s co-scholar and HOME’s Production Manager.

Directed, choreographed and written by Debie herself, this worth-watching narrative dance production will be held on March 28-29, 2019 with 1 PM and 7 PM shows at the 6/F Black Box, SDA Campus . Regular tickets will be sold at 200 PHP each.
