Immersed in the concept of resilience, sculptor, Art De Leon, furthers his series as he explores and unveils yet another facet to mankind’s capacity of withstanding difficulties, and recovering from adversity.
“Take Your Mark” magnifies glimpses of humanity’s endurance to strive for purpose, and finding the will to persevere and rise above encountered trials and tribulations. The exhibition title, which is a starter’s command in swimming to get into position before the start of the race, is a means of the artist to associate swimming to themes of tenacity. De Leon views life’s challenges as waters that test an individual, and opportunities for growth in connection with life’s experiences. His subjects, though submerged in water, depict faces of hope and quiet strength. The artist also relates this exhibition to his art journey which was difficult and complex. Despite the hurdles, De Leon chooses to take his marks, persist, catch his breath above water, recognize spiritual flow, and move forward with the current to find joy and triumph.
