Philippines, Russia celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations through Russian Ballet Gala at the Metropolitan Theater

Nine internationally acclaimed ballet artists from the Bolshoi Theatre and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre brought to Philippine audiences the grandeur, precision, and emotional depth that define the Russian ballet tradition. Through a repertoire of iconic classical and contemporary works, the performance highlighted the enduring influence of Russian ballet and reaffirmed its place among the world’s most distinguished artistic traditions.

The audience witnessed celebrated excerpts from Raymonda, Esmeralda, Swan Lake, Carmen Suite, The Phantom Ball, The Snow Maiden, and The Master and Margarita, showcasing remarkable technical virtuosity, dramatic expression, and masterful storytelling. The program likewise paid tribute to the timeless compositions of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, whose music continues to shape and inspire the classical ballet repertoire across generations and cultures.

In his welcome remarks, NCCA Chairman Eric B. Zerrudo, PhD, underscored that the evening served not only as a celebration of artistic excellence, but also as a reflection of the enduring friendship between nations strengthened through cultural understanding and shared heritage. He likewise emphasized that, in line with the observance of National Heritage Month, the arts continue to play a vital role in preserving the stories, identities, and traditions that connect peoples across generations and borders.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the Russian Embassy in Manila and the Government of Moscow, presented “A Tribute to Tchaikovsky:
An Evening of Russian Ballet” on 25 May 2026 at the Metropolitan Theater. The event is organized at the sidelines of the Days of Moscow in the Philippines held from 25 to 29 May 2026 in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Manila.
