Spell P O W E R F U L. An Artistic Team comprised of Arthur Miller, Dennis Marasigan, and Jerry Respeto for “ANG PAG-UUSIG”! 🤯

Playwright:

ARTHUR MILLER is among the most brilliant and influential of playwrights. He created classics like ‘Death of a Salesman’, ‘All My Sons’, and ‘A View from the Bridge’, but his most popular and adapted work is ‘The Crucible’. Though based on the infamous Salem witch trials, the piece continues to traverse countries, cultures, and periods. Curious how it captured the consciousness of Filipino audiences; patrons and critics alike, and received multiple awards in the 2017 Gawad Buhay? Find out in February 2023!

Director:

To say that DENNIS MARASIGAN is a jack of all trades is an understatement. Being a multi-awarded stage and film director, and the current Vice President and Artistic Director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, he carries with him multiple and wide ranges of artistic work catering to different audiences and is revered by experts and critics. Honored with the 2017 Gawad Buhay Award for Outstanding Stage Direction for “Ang Pag-uusig”, watch out for-and make sure not to miss, what more Marasigan can offer in the February 2023 run of this hit production!

Translator:

JERRY RESPETO, the Director of the Arts Program of the School of Humanities at Ateneo de Manila University, is a highly-esteemed figure in the country’s academic and artistic communities. “Ang Pag-uusig”, his translation of Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’, demonstrates his advocacy, passion, and excellence in writing and translating and earned him the 2017 Gawad Buhay Award for Outstanding Translation/Adaptation. Do yourselves a favor and witness the revival of this award-winning piece from page to stage this February 2023!

The accomplished team of artists and creatives

Set Designer:

OHM DAVID is a respected figure in the field of set design for theatrical productions and commercial events. Aside from being a prolific set designer, he is also a lighting designer and technical director who creates outstanding spaces and environments for museums and installations locally and abroad. In “Ang Pag-uusig”, his minimalist yet cleverly transformative set hooks audiences and transports them into the very place where the Salem witch hunt and trials originally took place. You can experience that, too, so watch out for the February 2023 run!

Sound Designer:

A household name in the theater industry when talking about sound design and engineering is 4-time Gawad Buhay awardee TJ RAMOS. He is a frequent collaborator of Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) as evidenced in Stageshow, Der Kauffman, Mabining Mandirigma, Lam-Ang, and Ang Pag-uusig, among others-who has also sound designed, sound engineered, composed, and musically directed various theater productions for other professional and university-based theater organizations. Don’t miss the holistic aural experience that he will once again share with us in the rerun of “Ang Pag-uusig”!

Costume Designer:

TP will forever be honored to have worked with Philippine fashion industry icon JAMES REYES for the original costume design of “Ang Pag-uusig”. Considered by Artistic Director Nanding Josef as the “almost resident costume designer” of Tanghalang Pilipino, he had scored several nominations in the Philstage Gawad Buhay Awards for his work with the company in Aurelio Sedisyoso (2017), Juego de Peligro (2015) and took home the trophy for Mabining Mandirigma (2015). He was, and still is, highly admired by peers and colleagues for his “edgy, conceptual, and out-of-the-box” approach as an innovator in the field of fashion and theater costume design.

To revive and supplement Reyes’ artistry in the 2023 comeback of “Ang Pag-uusig” is TP production staff DANIEL GREGORIO, who himself is a promising costume designer as demonstrated in his credits as costume master, custodian, and designer for several of Tanghalang Pilipino’s previous productions like Ibalong, Balag at Angud, Katsuri, Der Kaufmann, and Doc Resureccion, among others. Witness how he will help transform the actors into their crucial character portrayals this February to March!
