Thea Tolentino is on a mission to bring more accessible mental health treatment to the Philippines through Music Therapy. Come and show your support!

There are no licensed or board-certified music therapists in the Philippines. But we have 3.3 million Filipinos who suffer from depressive disorders. According to the WHO, 1 in 4 people will be affected my mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Music Therapy is an internationally established health profession in which clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions are applied to address, emotional, cognitive, social and even physical needs to improve an individual’s quality of life.

Thea is a music teacher and is the first Filipino to be accepted at the Master of Music Therapy Program at the University of Melbourne. This degree will qualify her to take the exam by the Certification Board of Music Therapists and will enable her to practice as the first licensed Music Therapist in the Philippines. Thea’s goal is to come back to the PH and use music therapy to push her advocacy for better and more accessible mental health treatment, especially in undeserved communities.

As musicians and music lovers, we believe in the capacity of music to heal and better our quality of life, no matter what mental, emotional or social state we are in. It’s a long and costly road up ahead for Thea but we can pitch in to ensure the availability of professional music therapy in the country, because it is about time. Let’s help make lives Better With Music!
