The first Filipino all-student festival
Santolan Town Plaza is proud to present CINESTUDYANTE, the first-ever Filipino all-student short film festival. Hosted in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the festival aims to support young creatives’ foray into cinema and give aspiring filmmakers a venue to showcase their work.
The festival’s inaugural run will feature 43 short films by high school students and college undergraduates from all over the country. Films will be clustered into 100-minute programs and will be screened on rotation at Santolan Town Plaza’s Power Plant Cinemas from September 25 to October 1, 2019.
In each cluster, filmgoers can expect a variety of genres including live-action, animation, documentary, experimental, even musical short films. Films shortlisted for the festival were handpicked by a screening committee made up of esteemed members of the industry. Among them are Palanca Award-winning screenwriters and filmmakers Mr. Seymour Sanchez and Mr. Richard Legaspi, director and producer Mr. David Corpuz, award-winning film editor Ms. Manet Dayrit, and highly celebrated filmmaker Jose “Joey” Javier Reyes as festival adviser.

Adding excitement to the festival’s maiden run are workshops, forums, and meet and greets with esteemed local directors. On premiere night, September 25, CINESTUDYANTE will open with a screening of Recorder by Mikhail Red at 6:00pm, to be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. On September 28, a Director’s Open Forum will kickoff weekend festivities at 5:00pm. On October 1, at 6:00pm, a screening of Elise and Q&A with director Joel Ferrer will bring down the curtain on the festival.
Tickets are P150 per screening, and are available at cinema ticket booths or via santolantownplaza.powerplantcinema.com. The highest grossing cluster will have extended screenings at Power Plant Mall Cinemas in Rockwell Center on October 9-13, 2019.
