Our computers have surely been necessities to us for the past couple of years and decades or so. Considering the years that have passed, some of our machines start to perform slowly thanks to the ever changing software and technologies. Normally, we’d be upgrading them with newer parts, like a new central processing unit (CPU) or graphics processing unit (GPU) for gaming or creating. However, what if we told you that it is possible to upgrade your whole computer, without changing any of the parts?

Meet Dahon AX, a service that aims to solve the issue of having to replace parts per couple years. Instead of buying new computer parts, we can give them a boost so huge that it would seem like you have high end specs for your PC or even a laptop. Each computer part is limited to perform less than even a half of its full potential performance, that includes the CPU, GPU, or even our hard drives. It is like how our brains are not fully utilized often, mainly to keep us under control and balance. Those limits, thanks to the method we use called hardware boosting, can now be pushed further.

This method of boosting can heavily impact how we transfer files when it comes to our hard drives. Without any boost, a hard drive would perform 25-50 mb/s, which seems good enough for many. However, with a normal boost, it can go straight up to 50-100 MB/s. Sounds fast? Dahon AX can push it even further than ever. Thanks to Bon Labora, he and his team has able to use this new method of boosting that can make a hard drive perform up to 200-400 MB/s. That is definitely more than enough for even the enthusiasts, let alone the casual users. For a comparison, a solid state drive, or SSD, which is much faster than any hard drive, performs at more than 200 MB/s. This makes the hard drive be able to catch up with even more advanced storage types, with the added ability of lasting longer and being able to store more at a cheaper price than them.

A new type of storage has been made in order to compete with the existing HDDs or SSDs in the market. We call this the New Generation Form Factor drive (NGFF). This new type of storage is able to perform at such high speeds even without any boost (400-500 mb/s). Even with high enough speeds, this doesn’t stop Dahon AX from experimenting and playing around with the limits of this type of storage. As usual, our method of boosting is able to carry this faster, but this time, it’s so fast that you’re likely to transfer a couple of 1080p movies in just mere seconds. With Dahon AX boosting, the speed of the drive went from 400 mb/s to 2000-3000 MB/s, or 2-3 GB/s. It sounds unreal, but it sure is possible with new innovations and methods like this.

If our drives can be boosted to astronomical speeds like those mentioned above, we can also apply the same to other computer parts too, most notably the CPU and the GPU. This type of upgrade is much more convenient than ever, without the need to look up new parts and compatibility with other parts and spend tons just for each. We are currently looking forward to bringing this to everyone, as this can change the way we upgrade for the better. To top it all off, computers became more expensive to buy this year due to shortages and market problems, which makes many ways for us to innovate and find various solutions like what we did at Dahon AX.
