Formed Possibilities: A conversation on artistic production

A discussion with Derek Tumala, Katherine Nuñez, Lesley-Anne Cao and Katarina Ortiz, wherein the artists will talk about their creative processes in the context of the exhibitions “Homecoming” and “to give a moment a name” to be moderated by Con Cabrera.

This public program intends to extend the intimate activity of artmaking into a dialectic mode through engaging with the audience. The artist talk will be preceded by an exhibition walkthrough.

 


 

Derek Tumala is a trans-disciplinary artist working in the intersection of art, technology and community. He participated in various platforms such as Art Basel Hong Kong, Salzburg Global Seminar, Tokyo Design Week, Beyond Time Residency Poland and Sumonar Jogjakarta. Apart from his practice as a visual artist, he initiated Mvltiverse, a multimedia collective doing experiments with the moving image and steamworks, a collective of technologists & artists working in art and technology.

Katherine Nuñez finished her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (Studio Arts – Painting) from the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines, Diliman in 2013 where she graduated cum laude. She has exhibited her work in Venice, Jakarta, Ratchaburi, and Dubai. She recently participated in Craft Taitung 2018 as resident artist. On 2019, she became the team head of 98B COLLABoratory, an artist-run space and initiative based in Escolta, Manila.

Lesley-Anne Cao has earned her BFA from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts Diliman with a semester’s scholarship at the École national supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. In 2018, she held the solo exhibition The hand, the secretary, a landscape at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. She has also presented work in Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, Finland, and the UK.

Katarina Ortiz is a multi-media conceptual artist from Manila, Philippines. She has acquired her BFA from the Fin Art (Honours) Course at Central Saint Martins, London. She has shown work at Central Saint Martins (UK), Underground Gallery (PI), Art Informal (PI), The Drawing Room (PI) and Art Fair Philippines. Her current interests are developing discourses on re-appropriation, identity, authorship, and origin through the technological post-production process of the tertiary sector as well as through painting and drawing.
