Art Lounge Manila presents Edgar Doctor “Harana“.

Edgar Doctor studied Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas. In his career, he continues to produce works in different media such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, and sculpture. In 1960, Doctor received third prize for his artwork, “Grazing Carabaos” at the Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) and in 4 years garnered First Prize for his work, “Rizal Monument” at the same art competition. Followed by 3rd Prize in Painting Category, “Into the World of My Own” in 1965, and 2nd Prize in the same category in 1969 for “The Clowns”, both from the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) Annual Exhibition. He received Best Entry for “Metropolis #2” by the Society of Philippine Sculptors in 1971 and garnered the Grand Prize for “Economic Aggression” in 1972 and Third Prize for sculpture, “Ala-Ala #9” in 1988, both from AAP.

 

 

Harana is a type of wooing by a young man for his beloved. This exhibit is also a kind of courtship through visual arts. A courtship without melody, a “frozen music” that talks heart to heart, feelings to feelings. These paintings are wooing, singing, pleading for our nature to value our environment.
