Save San Roque is a broad alliance of architecture & engineering professionals, educators, organizers, artists, writers, and students, campaigning and working on the fulfillment of on-site housing development called the Community Development Plan for the residents of Sitio San Roque who are currently facing ongoing threats of demolition, land dispossession, and displacement.

Sitio San Roque is a 37-hectare urban poor community situated in a public land owned by the National Housing Authority (NHA) in North Triangle, Brgy. Bagong Pag-asa, Quezon City. The community has been facing and resisting violent threats of excessive state policing, demolition, and eviction to be relocated to faraway, hazardous relocation sites in order to pave way for the proposed Quezon City Central Business District (QC-CBD), a joint venture Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project of Ayala Land, Inc. and NHA. The Community Development Plan of San Roque that we, together with the community, are working on is an on-site housing development aiming to preserve the community in its present site and provide them with a mass-oriented, affordable, and decent housing. Furthermore, it aims to assert the urban poor’s right to the city and will fight for the empowerment of the urban poor as a valuable contributor to society being the builders and workers of the city.

We also advocate for an inclusive and sympathetic city where all its residents’ welfare are being accounted for. To achieve such, we believe it is imperative that we imagine a better world for everyone and that if we truly aspire for “development for all”—one that recognizes the rights and contributions of everyone in the city—we must resist with, stand alongside, and join in the struggle of the urban poor. Save San Roque believes that through a broad mass movement backed by different sectors of society and armed with a community-led development plan, “development for all” is possible.

In this context, Save San Roque Alliance is rising to the challenge of (1) realizing Sitio San Roque’s Community Development Plan and (2) building a mass support for Sitio San Roque. However, to make this possible, the Alliance will need the assistance of sympathetic individuals and organizations.

In our campaign to assert the urban poor’s rightful space in the city, we are inviting you to be one of our allies in this endeavor.

For more information about San Roque, the struggle of its residents, and the Community Development Plan, please feel free to contact Arvin Dimalanta at arvindimalanta93@gmail.com or 09209608186.

Sana ay makasama namin kayo sa pagbuo ng pangarap ng komunidad—para sa pag-unlad na ‘di isinasantabi ang ambag at karapatan ng maralitang lungsod. Maraming salamat po!
