Komura; Black & White Zine Fair

Saturday, September 21, 2019 | 11 AM – 9 PM
Warehouse Eight Coworking & Events Space
2241 Don Chino Roces Ave. Warehouse 8-B, 1231 Makati

A collaboration between independent bookstore Kwago and co-working and event space Warehouse Eight, Komura; is organizing its first ever Black and White zine fair on September 21, 2019, 11AM-9PM at Warehouse Eight, Makati.

Komura; Black and White Zine Fair strips down the zine to its most basic, radical format: several pages, printed in black and white, loosely folded, and stapled together. The radical zine format is centered on concepts, ideas, and spreading it to social networks (global and local) without the intervention of digital tools. With talks and a film screening about press freedom and independent writing, the Komura; BNW Zine Fair is a celebration of free speech — a place to connect, learn, discover, and be human.

PROGRAM:

Komura; Merchants: We have over 40 zine makers selling their Black and White zines!

Komura; Studio: We invited Adjani Arumpac of RESBAK  to learn about political zine making, Hulyen to know more about democratizing creation through zines, Matanglawin Ateneo to hear about their publication as a mosquito press and how campus press is an instrument to freedom, and Gladys Regalado to hear about how algorithm and new technology manufactures truth.

Reserve seats

Komura; Pixel: We’re screening the film Portraits of Mosquito Press by JL Burgos to witness the narratives about press freedom during the time of Martial Law

Independent and localized, the radical zine is about creating good content. It’s about democratizing information and production in an era marked by algorithm-based content and the rapid centralization of corporate media slaved by advertising.

More than anything else, the radical zine format is a celebration of free speech.
