Event    RSVP

By: Thierry Demaizière and Alban Teurlai
2016-2hrs-Documentary
French with English subtitles

Synopsis:
In 2014, Benjamin Millepied, French dance choreographer, is appointed Director of Dance of the Opéra National de Paris. The choreographer notably launches the process of creating his new ballet, “Clear, Loud, Bright, Forward”, for which he selects the ballet corps dancers. But it runs up against the traditions of the prestigious institution.

Review (Hollywood Reporter):
“There’s no question that dance buffs will spark to this behind-the-scenes chronicle of a ballet star at work — especially because they’ll already know a certain fact about Millepied’s tenure with the company, information that for other viewers is something of a stunner when it’s presented at film’s end. Though the film, which lapses at times into repetitiousness, could have been trimmer and sleeker, even non-aficionados will be swept up by its dynamic look at the creative process.”

🌳 Il Était Une Forêt / Once Upon A Forest

Luc Jacquet guides the spectator for a walk in the equatorial forest far from the beaten paths. It will be necessary to bend over and open the eye to discover the first seed to grow, that of pioneering trees, which set the stage for the next, and which 5 decades later, will take relay, before completing a complete cycle of several centuries.

Review (Hollywood Reporter):
More akin to a classic National Geographic program, albeit with stunning photography and visual effects galore, Forest should find fans among tree huggers and nature doc aficionados..

The screening will be in the presence of both directors who will engage with the audience for a discussion and Q&A.
Location: AFM Multipurpose Hall (4th floor)

Synopsis:
In Tamil Nadu, Southern India, millions of adolescents and young women work in the textile industry, from the cotton weaving to the production of ready-to-wear garments, for both local and the international market. They often come from poor and rural areas, where there are no income alternatives neither for them nor for their families, especially given the constant and persistent decline of agriculture. It is in these villages that the “brokers”, acting as intermediaries between the companies in need of a sizable and docile workforce, and local population ever more desperate, every year recruit hundreds of thousands of girls.

All documentaries will have English subtitles.
