The Likha Art Fair 2020 aims to highlight the art coming from the margins and the localities, and at the same time, bring forth art that is usually seen from the Metro. Astrolikha, Inc. brings together artists and writers who are primarily based in Cavite and whose interests include the establishment of emerging aesthetic principles. Through the fair, we encourage artists to share their own perspectives of what beauty is, especially in times that our sensibilities are challenged by events.

With the theme “Discovering Beyond Aesthetics,” the upcoming Likha Art Fair aims to respond to the need to reconfigure aesthetics not only as a concept but also as a principle in the creation of art, not for the sake of art itself, but more for establishing art’s relationship with the lives of people. We have conceived this theme to show that the urge to follow trends, as a part of the current generation’s aesthetic, has a tendency to overshadow the importance of more pressing concerns that affect more people.

The art fair aims to reinforce the link between art, nature, and culture, as three components that reflect aesthetics. For the creation of art is not divorced from the environment, not only as a source of inspiration and energy for the artist but also as something that is embedded within it. Also, art does not exist in a vacuum, for it reflects the experiences, beliefs, and practices of people and their aspirations for their lives and for their society.

The Likha Art Fair also challenges how taste is reinforced by people of influence. This taste reflects their values and imposes such values on many people. As such, the fair aims to showcase a different kind of taste—one that reflects the values of those who do not get attention through various channels. Thus, the fair aims to feature art that disrupts the very comforting notion of taste.
