The HUGO BOSS ASIA ART Award, introduced in 2013 and conceived and curated by the Rockbund Art Museum, aims to honour young emerging contemporary artists in Asia. As one of the finalists, Maria Taniguchi has been at the forefront of contemporary art exploration both in the Philippines and internationally. Selected as a finalist of the Award positions Taniguchi's work in dialogue with her peers from Mainland China, Cambodia, Taiwan and Myanmar. The talk, with an introduction of the Award and a survey of Taniguchi’s work, will open discussions on the common and different challenges of contemporary art in this area, local and international art ecology, as well as the artist’s response to them. Speakers will include Maria Taniguchi, Joselina Cruz, Director/Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, and Liu Yingjiu, Deputy Director of Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, China. This talk is co-organized by Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Manila. It is free but seats are limited.
