We invite all to a Memory Project and artists’ talk responding to the retrospective exhibition of the Filipino abstract painter Alfredo Liongoren (b. 1944), titled “layers and layers of the self peeled through” on view at the UP Fine Arts Gallery until October 6.

Reflecting on Liongoren’s artistic practice and historical milieu during a most politically turbulent decade, a panel of guests are asked to respond to the exhibition as the milieu, memory, and aftermath, weighing in on the questions: how are diverse trajectories of artistic expression, such as abstraction, political and social? How have Filipino artists responded to the call of conscience and citizenship amid dark times?

Marking the UP Day of Remembrance, this event is free to the public and co-organized by the Liongoren Gallery, the UP Fine Arts Gallery, and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) in cooperation with Tin-aw Art Management.
