PAMATO, a dance thesis production is a series of non-narrative dance performances on indigenous Filipino games. It showcases the development of cultural heritage and Filipino games and extends its movement language into a dance hybrid. This production is directed and choreographed by Cir Garing taking up Bachelor of Performing Arts, Major in Dance under the tutelage of Christine Crame.

The show features the energy, excitement, and thrill of outdoor activities of the past and shows its differences with the recreational activities of today. PAMATO is a nostalgic journey that serves as a reminder to the Filipino people to be proud of their cultural heritage.

It opens on the 15th of November at the 6th floor of Benilde’s School of Design and Arts Black Box, and will run until November 16. The Gala show will be on November 16 at 7:00 PM. Regular showtimes are at 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 7:00 PM. Gala Night tickets are priced at Php 350 and regular tickets are priced at Php 200. DIRECTOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER

Cir – Anthon Paolo Comia Garing is a scholar at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde taking up Bachelor of Performing Arts Major in Dance. He started his dance career as a student-coach at De La Salle Lipa Danzcom Pep Squad in 2008. After winning several national cheer and dance titles, he became the youngest accredited coach of the National Cheerleading Championship Philippines in 2009. He continued his passion in dance by exploring the world of contemporary art that acquired him 2 gold medals at the Hong Kong Challenge Cup Dance Competition as a competitor and choreographer in 2016 and 2017 respectively. He is currently a senior member of the CSB Blazers Pep Squad and a graduating Dance Major student of the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.

 

CAST

Elijah Erick D. Mendoza, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts Major in Dance, discovered his passion for dance when he was in his secondary level which led him to his numerous performances, from theater and dance productions to Contemporary/Hip hop competitions. He had performed in various dance productions such as “Songs About Eve” (2015), “Pendulo” (2016), and executed his acting skills in “La Spaghetti” (2015) . With the goal to tell the stories of his own success and challenges he faced as a dancer, he directed and choreographed his own theater and dance thesis production titled “Kugchugtikataktugtakatakapug” in 2017. Having experienced both in theater and dance productions, Elijah was casted as the villain “Maligno” in a dance musical production of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, “Ding, Ang Bato!”, written and directed by Chris Millado in 2018.

Gold Medalist in Hong Kong Challenge Cup Dance Competition 2016 under Jazz Duo category. He was a former Team Elite member, where they have won 3peat Champion in Remix ‘13 – ‘15, and is currently a member of the group Nitrous Image Crew who have won back-to-back Champions at the World of Dance Philippines 2017 & 2018. They represented the country at the World of Dance Finals 2018 at Pasadena, California and won 1st runner up in Team Division. He recently competed as a finalist in the choreographers’ competition under the CCP Choreographers’ Series, WifiBody.Ph 2018.

 

John Gamboa, an English Language Studies graduate from the University of Santo Tomas, has performed and choreographed in original musicals and musical adaptations, including Payong the Musical, Legally Blonde the Musical, and The Rocky Horror Show, where he played the leading role of Dr. Frank N Furter. Making his way to the theatre industry, he performed in Late Night Pizza, an entry for the Short + Sweet Theatre Festival 2017. He attended Creative Musical Theatre Workshop at the Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA) under Jeff Hernandez and Icee Po. Performing in the College of Saint Benilde – School of Design and Arts is not new to him as he performed in several dance thesis productions and ‘Ding, Ang Bato!’ under the direction of Chris Millado.

 

Kul Dela Torre was a former B.S. Chemistry student in the University of Santo Tomas who wanted to pursue Medicine. During his stay in UST, he joined the College of Science Dance Troupe wherein he participated in various dance competitions and performances where his love for dancing was born and realized. Together with his dance troupe, they were invited to guest in ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda after they won first place in “Cheermania Cheerdance Competition” during UST’s Quadricentennial celebration receiving a trophy and 500,000 pesos.

Now, he pursues his passion for dance and is a graduate of Bachelor in Performing Arts Major in Dance at the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde. He was a member and a full scholar of the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde Pep Squad, where he competed yearly in the NCAA Cheerleading competition and also in the NCC in March 2017. During his stay in college, he also performed in various productions such as “Viaje Karnabal” by Eric Villanueva, “Unboxed” by Mara Aboitiz Francisco, “Ding, Ang Bato” by Chris Millado, and his very own “NAKAKAPAGPABAGABAG” wherein he directed and choreographed the said production.

Together with Tanghalang Pilipino Actor’s Company, he was part of the cast in the 3rd re-run of Nicanor Tiongson’s “Mabining Mandirigma”. Kul is also a former scholar of Douglas Nierras Powerdance under the tutelage of none other than Mr. Douglas Nierras himself. He also competed in the Hong Kong Challenge Cup Dance Competition in 2017 and 2018 where he won gold medals in both years under the solo category and group category respectively.

 

Anthony Peñaranda is a freelance commercial model ,a former member of Team Elite and The Addlib, ballet dancer under Vella Damian school of ballet,inc.and a talent of ABS-CBN’S “STAR MAGIC”. He starred in various Indie Films like “Hawak ng gabi”,”Ang kaso ni manuel ejercito”,”Kung saan man patungo”,and “Felisa”.

He also does theater and played various roles such as: “Basurero”in Tuxqs Rutaquio”Sa isang Tingin, Ding in Chris Millado’s “Darna: Ding Ang Bato”, and “Donnalbain” in Nonon Padilla’s “Makbet”.
