READERS UNITE! Welcome to the 1st Philippine International Comics Festival. Get first dibs on the latest komiks releases in our Komiks Market featuring the Official Selection, eleven (11) Filipino graphic novels vying for the 150,000php Best Komiks Prize; the Independent Section, showcasing the best Filipino komiks creators of this generation; and an International Section featuring comic book creators and publishers outside the Philippines.

Enjoy Creative Workshops and Seminars from Community Mentors, Komiks Pitches with Publishers and Festival Partners, and Business Matching Meetings with Film, TV & Animation Producers.

The Festival ends with the 2020 Komiket Awards. Winners receive trophies and komikstarter grants from our international panel of judges and esteemed jury, and the announcement of the PICOF2021 Finalists!

The 1st Philippine International Comics Festival is organized by KOMIKET and supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Film Development Council of the Philippines, British Council Philippines, and Green Sun Hotel Makati.

Learn to create memorable characters (day1) and write effective dialogue (day2) with the Philippines’ premiere scriptwriter, Ricardo “Ricky” Lee. Ricky is the Scriptwriter of Himala, Relasyon, Moral, Jose Rizal, Anak, who won over 70 scriptwriting and Lifetime Achievement awards, author of several books including “Trip to Quiapo,” and mentored writers, directors, and producers in the film industry for the past 40 years.

With the rise of the content platforms come the thirst for content. Quark Henares, talks about the current trends and what content platforms seek to rise above the sea of content. Quark is an award-winning film director and Head of Globe Studios. He is a MBA graduate from the USC Marshall School of Business with a focus on entertainment and marketing.

 

Illustrating the Storyboard
with Josel Nicolas

Illustrating comics can be a viable profession–if you get hired to illustrate for films, animation or TV commercials. Josel Nicolas is the creator of “Windmills,” editor of “PIKO” a children’s comic book anthology, and has worked with film director Erik Matti for “Buy Bust,” “Kuwaresma,” and “Darna.”” Josel will share the work process of working with directors and film storyboard work.

 

Animating Comics Featuring the Full Circle Lab 2020 Filmmakers

Meet the creators who want to bring their stories and comics to life! Direk Avid Liongoren (“Saving Sally,” “Hayop Ka” and “Zsazsa Zaturnnah vs the Amazonistas of Planet X”) plans to animate Rob Cham’s “Light”/”Lost”, Mitzi Delima’s “Oyayi”, “Strange Natives” by Director Paolo Herras and Producer Magoo del Mundo, and Kim Timan & August Lyle Espino’s “With You.”
