PLUS: The Art Collective [Propelled by Learning via Unbridled Synergy] 4.o2 – a fundraiser for Jaycle Andaya, Denber Andaya, and Eliza Remanez

hello again, ever-one! as a continuing humanitarian and/or humanistic tradition, PLUS will yet again endeavor into a fundraiser to assist its chosen beneficiaries, namely:

[A.] 14-yr old Jaycle Andaya and 7-yr old Denber Andaya, eldest and youngest sons of Clemen Andaya and Jessie Andaya, a beautiful family of a fisherfolk community in Sitio Balacbacan, Laiya, Batangas. they’re currently in a lifetime struggle against a rare bleeding condition called Haemophilia A, following an unjust effort of eviction from their residence by some greedy businessman and his cohorts a year ago.

here is the whole fisherfolk community’s story:

here are some useful info on Haemophilia:

here are some fotos taken during our visits to the family at the National Children’s Hospital:

[B.] Eliza Remanez, big sister of our friend, Lynda Remanes. Eliza survived cancer of her left breast this year but, not too long after that, the illness resurrected as cancer of the bone in her left arm, and she is now entering her 2nd phase of chemotherapy.

from this month onward, we’ll be featuring a documentary or indie film, immediately followed by a Q&A with the director, at the start of the show to cater to a wider spectrum of art appreciation and/or creative expression, other than establish a culture of awareness, compassion, and empathy.

we are so privileged and honored to have Ang Babae Sa Likod Ng Mambabatok kickstart this turning point in PLUS history, because arguably no documentary captures Apo Fang Od, the renowned spinster tattoo artist of Kalinga, up close and personal like this world-class work of art by Director Lauren Sevilla Faustino does. here in this 3-yr old film, the mystery enshrouding the iconic figure is unraveled to leave one wanting to know more about his/her heritage; the roles and impact [indigenous] women have in/on the rural and urban settings; and other realities unknown to the so-called civilized Filipino society.

of course, there is also the enjoyable Interactive Science Talk delivered by the ever-enthusiastic Pecier Decierdo of The Mind Museum; the beautiful, original, indie music and covers of our raw talents or rising musicians; the moving poetry and prose of our esteemed writers; and the very-educational Interactive Enviromental Talk that we’ll try to bring back in the coming months, considering how critical the planet’s situation is now.

all individuals involved in this PLUS fundraiser, which happens every last Thursday of the month at Conspiracy Garden Cafe, work together and perform pro-bono with the common intention of helping alleviate the plight of our beneficiaries. all proceeds from the meager entrance fee of P100 per head — and cash donations, if any — will go to our beneficiaries, as has been the practice since day one.

incidentally, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve stopped raising funds for our primary beneficiary, www.kaeskwela.org, till further notice to accommodate our current focus; we still have to figure out other fundraising campaigns to address our perpetual fund shortage.
