MANILA, Philippines – Red Bull Thre3style, the largest and most reputable DJ competition in the world, is officially holding its first qualifiers in the Philippines in search of the first Filipino DJ to move on to the world stage. Competitors are judged on the dual platforms of technical ability and crowd reaction, and are given just 15 minutes each to prove that they are the best in the room. Judges critique according to a strict criteria that also marks DJs on their originality in song choices, confidence performing, and mixing prowess.
The competition started with 13 of the country’s best DJs who competed in two qualifiers held in Cebu at J. Ave Superclub and Manila at Urbn. The top three DJs from each qualifier (six total) were selected and will advance to the Philippine finals to be held this coming Saturday, June 28 at 10 p.m. at Republiq Club, Resorts World, Manila. The winner of the 2014 Philippine Thre3style competition will be the first ever DJ to represent the country at world championships, the largest and most respected DJ competition in the world, later this year in Baku, Azerbaijan.
To ensure a fair competition, two internationally acclaimed DJs were brought in from North America to judge. DJ Hedspin from Vancouver, Canada has built his foundation on hip-hop, rap, funk, soul, ’80s, dancehall, and reggae. Moreover, he won the 2011 Red Bull Thre3style World Championship. The second international judge, DJ Shortkut, is another heavily noted turntablist most popular for being a founding member of 3 DJ crews (Invisible Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkie Sound, and Triple Threat DJs) as well as having created some of the most influential DJ routines of all time.
The two legends will be capping off the Saturday night’s finals with a tandem set at Republiq Club in Resorts World Manila.
