Reverb is an invitation to pause, to rethink, to re-examine, to misunderstand, to intentionally misinterpret. It is an occasion for the act of silence, to interrupt silence, to permutate silence, to speculate on what could come out of these interruptions and permutations.

We invited Datu Arellano, Jose Tong, Gladys Regalado, Erick Calilan, Vyxz Vasquez and Miggy Inumerable to a performance of 4 minutes and 33 seconds that respond to A Curated Shelf Conversations: Tad Ermitaño, with an intention to create a space to attune to silence, to listen attentively, to puncture and punctuate – a space that hosts listening as active reading.

We invited Jorge Juan Bautista Wieneke V/ Similarobjects to respond to A Curated Shelf Conversations: Tad Ermitaño as Jorge’s practice criscrosses sound, technology and art.

An electronic music educator and producer from the Philippines, Jorge is one of the founders of BuwanBuwan Collective, and Cosmic Sonic Arts. He also teaches Electronic Music as part of the AB-Music Production Program at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Jorge’s live sets are consistently met with acclaim, including last year’s Red Bull Music Festival Berlin. He seeks to aurally express the junction of technology, video games, and art by utilizing the theoretical frameworks of polystylism, spirituality, and esoterics. He reaches into the depths of the modern-day with older, almost forgotten cultural lenses, creating balanced soundscapes that fluctuate between our day’s chaos and the distant, hypnotic cries of nature; similarobjects is a constant effort to unite the now with an imagined spiritual past.

He is currently writing a new album and audio-visual live performance inspired by video games, existentialism and pareidolia.

See him decode and encode the act of reading for four minutes and 33 seconds.

A Curated Shelf

A collaboration between Kwago and Comma, A Curated Shelf is a space to instigate critical conversations on reading, writing, print and publishing. For the first A Curated Shelf, we invited new media artist Tad Ermitano to give us a glimpse of the books that inform his life and work.
