Romeo Gutierrez

A Treasure Trove of Talents

Poetry and painting are inseparable. These are the two highest forms of art that go side by side, providing both intellectual and emotional stimulation. But painting for artist par excellence Romeo Gutierrez is a commitment to his craft aside from self-expression.

Romeo Gutierrez, a painter, an artist, and an art educator, is a former professor at the College of the Holy Spirit — Fine Arts Department. As a graduate of Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas, Gutierrez honed his craft to perfection to become one of the most celebrated artists today. And as an art educator, Gutierrez has become the perfect instrument for sharing his passion, vision, and craftsmanship with his art apprentices.

Today, through hard work and perseverance, Gutierrez and his canvas have come a long way. In fact, this Holiday Season, Hallmark featured a variety of Gutierrez’s works as Hallmark’s Christmas cards. Prior to his latest coup in the art scene, Gutierrez has been featured in 35 One-man exhibits in various Halls of Art like the CCP, Lopez Museum, Ayala Museum, and Luz Gallery.

Gutierrez is not only a celebrated artist of this era, but also a recipient of several awards (two 1st Prizes; three 2nd prizes; one 3rd prize; etc. These awards were sponsored by AAP, PAP, SHELL, U.S.T. PNB, and NCAA Diwa ng Sining Award ) as one of the TEN OUTSTAND-ING VISUAL ARTISTS OF THE PHILIPPINES in 1984 and finalist on the 6th International Graphic Arts Biennial held in Taipei, R.O.0 in 1993.

To add a feather to his cap, Gutierrez participated in several art exhibitions here and abroad: Taipei, Chile, China, Hongkong, Germany, London, England, USA, (New York City, Washington, D.C.), and other parts of Europe.

He was commissioned to do at a total of 18 artworks and murals for the Manila Peninsula Hotel Special Suites. He had also masterfully and artfully executed masterpieces for Solid Mills, Inc., Rustan’s Bon Apetit, and Pegasus. On top of that, he finished 140 paintings for Riviera Mansion Hotel, a mural for Jaime Dichavez, and 3 murals for Manila Diamond Hotel.

Gutierrez has also been featured in international Art Books like Who’s Who in the International Art (1994) Lausane, Switzerland, and in the 3rd (1987), 5th (1991), and 6th (1993) Biennial International Graphic Arts.

In the local scene, Gutierrez and his canvas were featured in The Epiphany of Philippine Graphic Arts (1982); Arts Philippines (1993); Shell Reunion Artist, Book (1993); Encyclopedia of Philippine Arts (1995); The Art Collectors Guide Book (2005); Living in Art (2010); and Artworks First Fifty Years, 1948-1998 (Art Association of the Philippines) 2011.

Gutierrez is a former Vice President of ART ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES and Board Director of AAP.
