This year, the nation celebrates the Centennial Year of Manlilikha ng Bayan Salinta Monon. Through Proclamation No. 1076 s. 2021, the President of the Philippines declares December 2020 to December 2021 as a special year to honor the Bagobo master weaver.

Salinta Monon was a Tagabawa Bagobo virtuoso from Bansalan, Davao del Sur. She was conferred with the title “Manlilikha ng Bayan” (National Living Treasure) for attaining the highest level of excellence in the art of abaca-ikat weaving and for her unwavering dedication and commitment to her art by fully demonstrating the creative and expressive possibilities of Bagobo Inabal at a time when such art is threatened with extinction.

As the lead agency for the celebration, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts invites everyone to join the Lecture Series commemorating the birth centennial year of Manlilikha ng Bayan Salinta Monon. Listen to three esteemed experts — Dr. Cherubim A. Quizon (May 15), Dr. Norma A. Respicio (May 22), and Dr. Felipe M. de Leon Jr. (May 29), — as they discuss vital topics related to the life and works of the Bagobo virtuoso.

This event will be held online via Zoom Webinar and open to the public. Certificate of Completion and MB Salinta Monon Birth Centennial Commemorative Materials will be granted to participants via the Zoom portal. The event will also be broadcasted via FB Live through the NCCA Facebook Page – for which no certificate will be given but audience questions will be taken and read to the speakers.
