S.E.A. Focus will return from 16 to 19 January 2020, bringing together a curated selection of galleries from across the wider Southeast Asia region, including Jakarta, Makati City, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hanoi, as well as Beijing, Berlin, Brisbane, New York and Seoul.

The 2020 edition will feature over 35 artists based in, or connected to, Southeast Asia, with over half born after 1985, cementing the platform’s commitment to supporting the creative development of the region.

S.E.A. Focus is a showcase of contemporary art from Southeast Asia. Launched in 2019, it aims to bring together a curated selection of some of the finest artists and galleries from across the region to foster a deeper appreciation of contemporary art and artists in Southeast Asia. A meeting point for artistic vision and vigour, S.E.A. Focus provides a platform to propel diverse cultural exchanges which celebrate, promote and provoke dialogue about Southeast Asian art.

 

 

Returning to Gillman Barracks visual arts precinct in Singapore for its second edition in 2020, S.E.A. Focus will host 20 galleries. S.E.A. Focus is an initiative led by STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery, supported by the National Arts Council, Singapore.

SILVERLENS is pleased to join S.E.A. FOCUS 2020 with a dual presentation of Southeast Asian artists Mit Jai Inn and Yee I-Lann. This is the first time the gallery will be participating in the fair.

Widely respected senior Thai artist Mit Jai Inn showcases his latest boundary-defying paintings. Sabahan artist Yee I-Lann also presents woven mats from her series “TIKAR/MEJA” (2018-2019) and a large-scale piece made specially for the fair.

Yee I-Lann will be discussing today’s Malaysian contemporary art scene on Saturday, 18 January 2020, at 4:30 PM, as part of the panel “Southeast Asia Art Watch: Malaysia” at the fair. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

The Drawing Room (Contemporary Art), with works by internationally-acclaimed Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija and Filipino-Danish perfomance artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen.

Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen will also be performing her piece “Octopada” during the fair.
