Shapeshifters (MusicMakers Hacklab)

WSK X: Festival of the Recently Possible

October 25, from 8PM to 10PM
Dulo MNL
4992 P. Guanzon, Makati, Metro Manila

Hosted by Peter Kirn and Tad Ermitano, the Manila version of MusicMakers Hacklab invited submissions exploring the question of how performance practice and invention can change the performer, how its transformative potential can make the performer visible or entirely invisible, and how collaborations can remake each other’s roles.

Split into groups, the selected Hacklab participants were encouraged to collaboratively develop ideas over the course of a week, allowing participants to fully utilize one’s unique skill set while learning from each other and adapting to a joint workflow.

In Shapeshifters, the resulting projects by the fellows will be presented in front of a live audience. These might be high tech or low tech, speculative or punk, involving projection, puppetry, prosthetics, and makeup, in instruments that reshape our bodies and voices, or in the metamorphic power of sound itself. On this evening, they will present some results of their week of experimentation and play.
