Documenting from isolation, Jem Magbanua chronicles a period of stillness in “The Long Now”. Drawing images from Google Maps, a platform combining traditional and digital technology, random places were inspected and merged with illustrated observations of the changing sky. The drawings neither portray nor obscure the truth but investigate associations (or its absence) with spaces, framing landscapes between the real and imaginary. Throughout time, maps have become devices that enforce our recognition of the expected context in the way we must navigate the world. In Magbanua’s enactment of control, we are re-introduced in our assumed cognizance of time and place.

“The Long Now” will be on view at Galerie Stephanie starting June 7, 2020. For more information, or to schedule a visit, you may reach 7940-5726 or email inquiry.galeriestephanie@gmail.com.⁣
