Breaking Ground: A Fresh Start

Mylene Quito

In celebration of Philippine Independence day and the Anniversary of 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption, we present to you Mylene Quito’s exhibit, Breaking Ground.

The exhibit is all about starting over and rebuilding. Inspired by the Aeta communities in Pampanga who suffered from past lahar disasters. The show emphasizes creating new opportunities and breathing new life into the destruction left behind. It conveys the idea that even after severe losses, there is always a chance to start anew and foster growth.

Showcasing a vibrant collection of floral pieces that explore themes of modernity and culture, Mylene’s distinctive style breathes color and life into stories of resilience and transformation. Her art becomes a visual metaphor for hope blossoming from hardship.

As part of this mission, half of the proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to support the Aeta community, further underscoring her deep commitment to uplifting those in need.

Ultimately, Breaking Ground is a tribute to those who, despite tremendous losses, continue to rebuild their lives. It delivers a powerful message of hope and renewal—an appeal for everyone to take care of the Earth and support communities seeking a fresh start.
