Everything Starts with a Doodle
|DoodleCon 2025 to Launch in Pasig
Written by Marz Aglipay

On June 28, 2025, DoodleCon will open its doors for the first time at the Bayanihan Center
in Pasig City. Organized by creative collective WeeWillDoodle, in partnership with
Ideascape Events, the one-day convention invites participants to explore the wide and
often unexpected possibilities that begin with a simple doodle.
WeeWillDoodle, founded in 2007 by Nelz Yumul and collaborators, has built its practice
around the tagline “Create + Collaborate.” Their body of work spans murals, live art, and
interactive installations, and their clients have included Google, Adidas, Coca-Cola, and
Starbucks. Now, after years of working across industries and platforms, the group is
oYering something new: a space for creatives—and the creatively curious—to gather, draw,
and connect.
Why Doodle?
“Although doodles are usually mindless, our group sort of built a logic behind this,” says
Yumul. “It is the perfect marriage of mindlessness and mindfulness.” Doodling, for the
group, is both process and starting point—an accessible entry into creative thinking.
“Everything starts with a doodle,” Yumul adds. “That’s what we want to communicate in the
event.”
For WeeWillDoodle, launching a convention focused on doodling was not just about
medium—it was also about momentum. “We’ve been to a lot of diYerent conventions,”
Yumul notes. “There is an abundance of them, and we’ve been fans of the artists and
makers behind these events. But with DoodleCon, we want to explore the starting points.
We want to get to know the stories of creatives and how their sketches or scribbles
eventually became brands.”
A Convention Built on Collaboration
The theme for this first edition—Create, Collaborate, Celebrate—expands on the group’s
original mantra. “We wanted to ‘celebrate’ the idea of creating and collaborating by scaling
it and opening the world of doodling to a wider audience,” Yumul explains.
DoodleCon will feature a range of talks and activities that aim to reflect this spirit.
Attendees can look forward to guest speakers from across the visual arts and advertising,
including Meneer Marcelo of Chandma Studios, illustrator Dione Kong, visual artist Frany,
street art collective Gerilya, and RonChris, Head of Art at GIGIL. Other names include
Paolo Ferrer (Ace Saatchi & Saatchi), JP Cuison, June Digan, Marcushiro, and Nick
Automatic, among others. Each speaker will reflect on how their creative journey often
started with rough sketches, loose ideas, or early notebook doodles.
“We have guest speakers talking about their ‘From Doodles to _’ stories,” Yumul says.
“We also have brands that let participants customize products, and art merchants showing
what kinds of products you can make with your art.”
More Than a Marketplace
Aside from talks and panels, the event includes hands-on zones such as the Doodle
Everything Zone, a Live Doodle Battle, a curated Doodle Exhibit, and the signature livedoodle
wall where attendees can co-create artwork throughout the day.
“There will be activities for participants to customize products from brands like Aquaflask
and World Balance,” Yumul shares. “There will also be collaborations with Sharpie, Power
Mac, Bee Happy, and more.” One highlight is the first-ever digital art battle hosted by Power
Mac, where the winner will take home an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.
WeeWillDoodle will also do a live art demonstration as part of the day’s programming. “It’s
not just a typical convention,” Yumul says. “We want people to experience how a simple
doodle can grow into something else.”
A Space for All Creatives—Even Those Who Don’t Know It Yet
DoodleCon is designed to be inclusive, particularly for those who might not identify as
artists. “Our main goal is to inspire people—creatives and those who might-not-know-it-yet
creatives—to start doodling,” Yumul says. “We want them to see that maybe they can start
something from there. Maybe even their own brand.”
The message “Everything starts with a doodle” will be visible throughout the event. It’s not
just a slogan—it’s a prompt. And while the format includes speakers and vendors, the heart
of DoodleCon is about participation.
Tickets to DoodleCon are priced at ₱100 and the event runs from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Whether you’re attending to meet like-minded artists, customize gear, or simply explore,
DoodleCon oYers a full day of shared creativity.
As Yumul puts it, “This is a space to create, collaborate, and celebrate together.”
