This art online exhibition aims to raise funds for the benefit of our frontliners from the UP Philippine General Hospital.

75% of the gross profit will be DONATED and used to purchase masks, PPE’s, and other essential medical items for the frontliners of UP PGH.

We, along with 100 participating watercolor artists, are hoping you can help us in this fight against COVID-19.

Let us come together and help our heroes, our beloved frontliners, who risk their daily lives so others like us may live and survive the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Maraming salamat po!

32nd Kulay sa Tubig

Competition and Exhibition

July 28 – August 4, 2020
Fashion Hall
SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City

Gallery Genesis established the Kulay Sa Tubig Invitational Watercolor Competition and Exhibition in 1983. The owner of Gallery Genesis, Mrs. Chichi Salas, felt that watercolors are under appreciated as a medium of visual art when in fact, it is the most difficult medium to handle, control and to master at it requires from the artist more discipline and precisional skill than any other medium. To the artist, it is the most challenging medium because watercolour is fluid. The first stroke is usually the last, leaving no room for corrections or mistakes. To the art collector, a good watercolor piece is a work of great talent that cannot  be faked, replicated, nor copied. Even the artist himself cannot do the same piece again. In addition, watercolor paintings can last for a very long time just like oil paintings. The watercolor mural ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, done by Michelangelo, is probably the largest work done in watercolor. It is now about 500 years old and still intact.

For 32 years now, there has been the Kulay Sa Tubig Invitational Competition and Exhibition where the highly talented and skilled watercolorists are invited to participate with a mandatory prescreening requirement. Since then, it has become one of the better-known art competitions among the artists and various artist groups in the country. To talented and aspiring artists, it has become very prestigious to win and become one of the Top 5 Philippine Watercolorists, or just even be invited to compete with their peers. The prestige of winning from among their visual art equals, more than the modest prize money, has become very much more important to the competing artists. It is for this reason that there will always be some exceptional watercolor entries, even accidental masterpieces, during every Kulay Sa Tubig Competition.

Because of her great love for the arts, Mrs. Chichi Salas continued mounting yearly, the Invitational Kulay Sa Tubig Competition staying true to her mission of providing a public venue for the very skilled of the established, new, and aspiring artists to show the public their mastery in watercolor.
