PERSPECTIVES & NARRATIVES
Beyond being an exhibition featuring cherished college friends, this event is a gathering of storytellers. Anton Quisimbing, Dayong Mendoza, Jasper de Leon, Kris Soguilon, and Norman Dreo share a rich history, having journeyed together from their teenage years into adulthood as they evolved into professional artists.
Throughout their paths, they have: Competed in art competitions, joined group exhibitions, shared beloved mentors, adored and debated renowned artists, engaged in playful banter, reconciled disagreements, and celebrated each other’s successes, relished in memories over drinks, might as well cheered for the same popular ladies while maintaining camaraderie, marked special occasions like birthdays and weddings, agreed on political views and societal goals, and most of all supported one another through life’s many twists and turns.
The strength of their bond is palpable. During conversations and interviews with these like-minded friends, I sensed both their playful chaos and their earnestness.
Titled ‘PERSPECTIVES and NARRATIVES’, with different presentation each artists. The solo exhibitions will feature new works alongside developmental studies, traditionally sketched on paper, in notebooks, and digitally. These aims not only to deepen the narratives woven into the main pieces but also to offer glimpses of autobiographical anecdotes, enriching the understanding of their inspirations and creative processes.
‘UTOPIA’ by Anton Quisimbing, ‘KWENTONG PINOY’ by Dayong Mendoza, ‘IN THEIR SILENCE, I HEARD STORIES’ by Jasper de Leon, ‘CURATED REALITIES’ by Kris Soguilon, and ‘ENVISION’ by Norman Dreo will run at J Studio from July 5-25, 2025.
