Where art takes a unique and unfiltered form.

‘SketchPod’ initially bore the title ‘Sketchpad.’ The concept drew its inspiration from the sheets of sketches or drawings freshly torn from an artist’s sketchpad. These artworks were presented without traditional framing, hooks, or wires; instead, they were affixed with tapes, and their details were inscribed graffiti-style on the gallery walls. The informal arrangement of the exhibit aimed to capture the raw essence of the drawings, reflecting the spontaneous act of putting one’s unfiltered thoughts or reflections on paper.

As the exhibit evolved, the setup remained the same, but the title’s final syllable was changed to ‘pod.’ This act emphasized that many of the drawings served as the foundational elements for major paintings or significant artistic works. When exploring these drawings and sketches, one can liken it to navigating the intricate labyrinth of the artist’s mind. For some artists, creating drawings is a more personal form of expression, akin to visual journals that document their conscious and at times unconscious thoughts.

The meticulous study of lines, compositions, and tonal values in these drawings eventually proves invaluable when translating them into vibrant and large-scale artworks. Moreover, sketches and drawings serve as the launching pads for generating fresh and innovative ideas. A drawing, in and of itself, represents the inception of something organic. The lines and shading are not mere marks made by a pencil, pen, or pastel stick on paper; they are pods of ideas, thoughts, and imaginings taking form—seeds that will ultimately sprout, grow, flourish, and expand.

“SketchPod 2023” features the participation of more than 80 artists, ranging from established to emerging talents and newbies. This exhibition brings together individuals who have been with Artepintura for years, as well as those who are just embarking on their creative journey with the gallery.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate the planting of the seeds of creativity.
