7th Philippine Pastel Convention

October 28 to 30, 2022
GSIS Museo ng Sining
Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, GSIS Headquarters, Financial Center, Pasay City

In celebration of Museums & Galleries Month, the Philippine Pastel Artists, Inc. presents the 7th Philippine Pastel Convention from October 28 to 30, 2022, at the GSIS Museo ng Sining in Pasay City as its main event for the year. The Philippine Pastel Artists, Inc. is an SEC-registered, non-stock, non-profit organization promoting Filipino artists through pastels as a medium for artistic expression and setting the standards of excellence in pastel painting in the Philippines.

The event will feature ten guest resource speakers to present various themes related to pastel art. An On-the-Spot Competition will also be held amongst the participants for a winner-take-all challenge. The prime highlight of the convention is the awarding of the major winners from the 2022 Philippine Pastel Competition, of which the top 20 works will be exhibited until November 4th.

The sessions will be delivered in a hybrid format, with the majority taking place on-site and the rest occurring via online sessions. The sessions include both demonstrations and talks about pastel art. In “The Art of Caring for Pastel Paintings,” senior lecturer at the UP College of Fine Arts and restorer-conservator June Dalisay will review how to maintain pastel artworks to ensure their integrity and longevity under various circumstances. Mario Panis, a multi-awarded classical realist, will showcase his distinctive approach in a portrait demonstration on October 29 at 1 PM. And not to be missed is award-winning Singaporean artist Isabelle Lim, who will share her insights and techniques in “Expressive Pastel,” emphasizing composition and pastel layering, in a live Zoom session on October 30 at 10 AM. The other guest speakers include Julius Legaspi, Roland Castro, Nell Belgado, Beth Robles, Jun Rocha, Bing Siochi, and Lisa Villaseñor.

The panel of esteemed jurors of the 2022 National Pastel Competition is comprised of artist and art critic Cid Reyes, columnist and business entrepreneur Wilson Lee Flores, prize-winning Malaysian pastelist Tai Meng Lim, artist painter Romeo Carlos, and Fernando Sena, who is known as the Fatherof Philippine Workshops. On October 29 at 5:30 PM, the top three winners and ten honorable mention awardees will be announced, who represent the best of the best from everyone who took part in the sixth edition of the competition.

The 7th Philippine Pastel Convention is supported by event partners Art Caravan, Pulp & Pigment, Prestige Paper Products, Giftbox Inc., Ideas Enterprises, Art Bar, The Oil Paint Store, Eshi Shack Art Studio, Artefacto Online Art School, and Art Nebula.
