The Consortium for Critical Island Studies invites interested researchers and practitioners in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to its inaugural international conference hosted by Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas. The conference explores established and emerging issues, theories, methodologies, and practices in critical island studies. Focusing on concepts of the islandic, archipelagic, and oceanic, the conference accounts for the interdisciplinary historical formation, while examining its manifold scholarly and creative practices and possibilities within and across Asia. Topics include, but are not limited to, islandscapes, seascapes, and littorals; borders and contact zones; international, national, imperial, regional, cultural and language formations; and bio- and cultural diversity.
