After the successful run during the climate change conference (COP 28) at Dubai, the Island Innovation mounted Islands of Hope and Island Voices from November 30 to December 12. The third reiteration of its ambassador program conducted a wrap-up session last Friday 11pm Philippine time.
The highlight of the year are as follows: February welcome session; March how to be an impactful changemaker; April understanding climate finance; May communication as a tool for social transformation; May climate justice; June the blue and the orange economy; July equity and inclusivity of marginalized communities; August, September local hubs/ celebrating the 5th anniversary of the virtual island summit and October and November COP`28.
One of the lasting contribution and benefits of local hubs can be summarized intro three:
- Remember local events are a fantastic way to build your legitimacy;
- Gain valuable community organizing experience and
- Improve your portfolio to enhance your ability to access funding opportunities
Stacey Alvarez de la Campa, the island innovation coordinator and James Ellsmoor, the Island Innovation chief graced the occasion with some 100 ambassadors from the Caribbean, South Asia and the Pacific. “We have made the decision to end the program in its current format the year,” they both said.
Moving forward, here are ways to continue the contribution to Island Innovation:
- Submit articles;
- Submit blogposts;
- Submit visual content;
- Attend our virtual and in person events and
- Continue to champion the cause of sustainability in your island and region.
