Secret Fresh Gallery in cooperation with The Working Animals Art Projects (TWA) announces the opening of a new solo exhibition by Pow Marin this May. In this exhibition titled Loved, Marin attempts to offer comfort through his art amid in these difficult and trying times of the pandemic by reminding everyone that they are loved. The artist once again brings his meticulous laying out and detailing of organic shapes and patterns—this time predominantly floral—to surround clusters of linear human figurations. The central figures in each composition depict hugging and embracing, gestures of affection which are, coincidentally, have been limited and discouraged in light of social distancing measures. Through the images, the artist aims to share visual hugs to the viewers and suggest sensory experiences that they may find comforting and pleasant.

A graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising from the Technological University of the Philippines, Pow Marin received citations from several art competitions before bagging the Grand Prize of the 2016 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence for Oil/Acrylic category. His works mostly drawn from personal memories and experiences are vivid illustrations of themes such as gender identity and family affairs, with forms animated by fields of colors and sumptuous patterns inspired by nature and underwater biodiversity.

This show is curated by Ruel Caasi.

The exhibition opens on 6 May at Secret Fresh Gallery, Ronac Art Center, Ortigas Avenue, San Juan City.
