Synopsis

The play begins when Brother Solomon learns of the event that majority of the Bishops refused to take the constitutional civil oath in January 1971. He braces on what possibly could happen to the Brotherhood residing at the Maison du Saint-Esprit in Paris. This act presents the development of indignation and persecution of religious orders in various parts of France and how it affects Brother Solomon.

The second act opens with Brother Solomon, with Brother Agathon, negotiates with the authorities of the Assembly to protect the brotherhood. This act continues with the presentation of the tribulations experienced by members of the brotherhood. Amidst everything, for a brief moment, Brother Solomon is able to visit the hermitage in the Forest of Sennart. Little by little, his brothers at Maison du Saint-Esprit take their leave. In Brother Solomon’s solitude, the mob in the night of August 15, 1972 arrives to arrest and persecute him. He is presented to a tribunal. He refuses to take the oath. In various minute scenes or montage of scenes, Brother Solomon’s family background, how he becomes a member of the Brotherhood, and his experiences during his formative years in the Brotherhood will be integrated.
