Atsuko Yamagata

 

(b.1982) Born in Sapporo City, Hokkaido, Japan, Atsuko Yamagata now lives and works in Manila, Philippines. She has started her career as a visual artist since 2006 when she lived in Tokyo. A self-taught artist, Yamagata received her B.A. Faculty of Foreign Studies in Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, majoring in Indonesian language as a part of cultural study of Southeast Asia.

Since moving to Manila in 2012, her creative practice has expanded, participating in exhibitions in the Philippines (Artinformal, Vinyl on Vinyl, MO Space, West Gallery), Japan, Indonesia, and Singapore. Yamagata was also selected as a participant artist in Nakanojo Biennale 2017 and 2019 in Gunma Prefecture (Japan).
